DataCol Battery Management Solutions
Ltd - (formerly Power Management Technologies NZ Ltd)
On the 9 November 2006, a 30% stake was secured
in DataCol Battery Management Systems Ltd ("DBMS").
DBMS has developed a solution to solve common problems associated
with mobile powered field devices and is a standalone battery
management system. The founding shareholders have teamed up
with the DataCol Group to commercialise this innovative and
unique
battery management system. John Fagan founder of DBMS said
we partnered with the DataCol Group because of their people,
commercial
capability, expertise and to gain access to a wide network
of connections.
Current applications in the field are often plagued with issues
around battery management. This has led to the premature disposal
of a battery prior to its useful life, incorrect conditioning
and usage of batteries leading to earlier than planned disposal,
and the more practical issues around monitoring and testing
of batteries remotely. The cost in industrial applications
is high and to date there has been no satisfactory solution
to various applications in the market
The stand-alone component system is unlike other technologies.
It is a plug-in system as opposed to a software application
that has to interface with a battery or a power system. The
technology is able to determine the condition of the batteries
and provide alerts and warnings which have major advantages
over current methods and technologies.
The company's initial focus is the Telecommunications
and Power sectors, although the benefits of the solution will
extend to other areas that have remote battery applications.
